When Frank Laupman graduated from Technical University in Eindhoven, his career went off to a surprising start. At the time very few jobs were available in architecture. Frank decided to explore his interest in the designing of luxury yachts (styling of both exterior and interior) and got into contact with Jan Gremmen, technical director at Heesen Yachts. The Heesen shipyard is one of the most well known in the world. Gremmen told Frank he should contact Pieter Beeldsnijder, Heesen’s foremost yacht designer. Pieter Beeldsnijder was impressed with Frank’s talents and offered him a job at his yacht design office. They worked together very successfully. Frank acquired a great deal of knowledge and experience and was hired by Heesen in 1983. There he started the Diaship Design Team with Jan Gremmen. It was this team that supplied the designs for many award winning yachts, some of which are still being copied today.
Ten years later, Frank established his design office Omega Architects and continued to refine his yacht designs. His yachts all share the same characteristic signature, a lean streamlined and clean look. Every year, five yachts designed by Omega Architects experience their maiden trip.
